Records are mandatory under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 1994

Records Mandatory in order to meet ISO9001:2000 - a good standard of performance
  • Systems must be documented
  • Must cover control (review, approval, and issue of documents describing the work to be executed)
  • Requires that the reviewer decides who gets what documents
  • In all 15 Clauses of ISO9001:2000 are relevant to document control
    • Incoming and Outgoing Inspection - is it readable ?
    • Audits to prove the system is working

Records Necessary to meet conditions of contract - do contract claims never happen ?
  • Provision of information (drawings, specifications, BOQ's, etc) on a timely basis
  • Response to and resolution of queries
  • Notices - Delay, Disruption, etc ad nauseam

Points to note
  • There is only one defence to a prosecution by the Health & Safety Executive: The necessary records exist,
  • Without certification to ISO9001:2000 you are unlikely to get any work,
  • Work consists of entering into contracts for performance,
  • Records Management Systems MUST accomodate all of these requirements.
